May 12--The Chicago Sky waived 6-foot-4 center Shanece McKinney on Wednesday, cutting the roster down to 13 players.
The former LSU Tiger averaged 6.7 points per game during the preseason. The Sky invited her to training camp in March, and have been looking for depth at the center since trading Sylvia Fowles to the Minnesota Lynx last season.
Chicago drafted Imani Boyette, a 6-7 center out of Texas, in April, and also have 34-year-old veteran Erika de Souza from the Fowles trade.
McKinney appeared in 24 games with the New York Liberty in 2014, averaging 1.8 points and 1.4 rebounds, but was released before the start oflast season.
The Sky must cut one more player before they open the regular season against the Connecticut Sun on Saturday at Allstate Arena.
