BRIEF: Sky cut Courtney Clements, prepare to lose Allie Quigley temporarily

June 01--The Sky have waived Courtney Clements, paring their roster to 14 players. The 6-foot guard made one start and played in all but one game last season, and scored 2.7 points per game.

The Sky acquired the former San Diego State Aztec and a 2015 second-round pick last May when they traded Swin Cash and a 2015 third-round pick to the Atlanta Dream. In three games this preseason, Clements averaged 6.3 points and 1.7 rebounds.

The Sky must cut their roster to 12 players by Thursday. They open the season against the Indiana Fever on Friday at Allstate Arena.

Clements may have a chance to be signed again later this month when WNBA sixth woman of the year Allie Quigley leaves the team temporarily to play overseas. Quigley will play in the season's first two games Friday and Saturday, then join the Hungarian national team for the EuroBasket tournament, which runs from June 11-28.

The length of Quigley's absence will depend on how far Hungary advances. The EuroBasket winner earns a berth to the 2016 Rio Olympics.
