BRIEF: Skilling: Memorial Day weekend a tease to summer weather

May 27--South-to-southwest winds will continue to sweep tropical air across the Chicago area through the Memorial Day weekend.

It will be humid and in the low 80s, continuing a string of warm days that began early in the week. Thunderstorms also will be a possibility.

The greatest coverage of storms is expected late Friday. It should be stressed that although storms are in the forecast, there will be many more dry hours than wet.

Thursday brought another onslaught of severe weather to the Plains. Tornado watches extended from Des Moines, Iowa, to Denver and south into Texas.

Despite the widespread dangerous weather to our west, storms forecast for the Chicago area are not expected to become severe. Brief wind gusts and heavy downpours will be the main threat.
