March 15--Satellite and wind analyses late Monday revealed powerful, 150 mph jet stream winds sweeping across the central Rockies, initiating thunderstorm development over the Plains.
On Tuesday, a storm system is forecast to organize to our west, prompting an increase in south winds a few thousand feet above the ground. These low-level winds are to transport mild, 50-degree dew-point air into the area while the air cools aloft.
This will make the atmosphere unstable. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms may develop by early afternoon. Storm coverage and intensity is forecast to increase during the evening.
Some storms could be severe, with large hail and damaging winds the primary threats. Isolated tornadoes also are possible.
