BRIEF: Singer-songwriter Neil Young sells his slice of paradise on the Big Island of Hawaii

Nov. 04--Singer-songwriter Neil Young has sold his oceanfront estate in Hawaii for $20 million.

Set on the Big Island, the three-acre compound includes a Hawaiian-style main house dating to the 1920s, two two-bedroom guest cottages, two greenhouses and a swimming pool with a pool house.

Wraparound verandas take in the sweeping views of the ocean. The nearly 3,000-square-foot main house has five bedrooms and four bathrooms.

Outdoor dining and lounging areas, a spa tub and an outdoor kitchen extend the living space outdoors.

The bayside property includes 830 feet of rock-strewn oceanfront. Lemon, papaya, pomelo and mango trees are plentiful. Coconut trees, expanses of lawn, a terraced vegetable garden and fruit trees complete the grounds.

Young, 69, gained fame with the 1960s bands Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash Young. Among the Grammy-winning singer and guitar player's enduring hits are "Old Man," "Heart of Gold" and "Ohio."

His current album, called "The Monsanto Years," takes on ecological destruction and other concerns.

He listed the property for $24.5 million.

Carrie Nicholson of Hawaii Life Real Estate Brokers was the listing agent.
