Feb. 20--Simon Cowell helped launch the careers of the members of One Direction and is now looking to do the same for a Latin boy band. The former "American Idol" judge and "X-Factor" creator and his production company, Syco Entertainment, are behind "La Banda," an Univision singing competition that will hold auditions across the country, including April 4 at the Courtyard Chicago Downtown/River North Hotel.
I know, I know, Cowell isn't the first name you think of when you think Latin entertainment, but maybe his co-executive producer, Ricky Martin, is. The "Livin' La Vida Loca" pop star and Menudo alum will also serve as a judge on the show and manage the five contestants chosen for the band. Univision personality Alejandra Espinoza will host the show, which is scheduled to premiere in September.
In order to audition, you must be a male (obviously), 14 or older and reside in the U.S. or Puerto Rico. Check out "La Banda's" website for details.
