Feb. 07--A Northern California wildfire grew to more than 7,000 acres over night at the base of Sierra Nevada.
Two towns were being threatened Friday night as firefighters battle the blaze named the Round fire, which is buring at the base of the Sierra Nevada.
The fire is at 30% contained, authorities said Saturday morning.
The towns of Paradise and Swall Meadows were put under a mandatory evacuation order about 4 p.m. because of the wildfire, according to the Inyo County Sheriff's Department.
The evacuation center is at the Crowley Lake Community Center.
Strong wind shifts are making containment difficult and are hindering aircraft use, authorities said.
The fire was first reported about 2 p.m., according to the sheriff's office. Multiple agencies -- including Cal Fire, the Bishop Volunteer Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, Paradise Volunteer Fire Department, Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service -- are on the scene.
