BRIEF: ShopHouse, Chipotle's Asian concept, now opening two Chicago locations

Oct. 06--ShopHouse, the Southeast Asian fast-casual concept from Chipotle, now has semi-firm dates for its forthcoming entry into the Chicago market.

Its first location will be in Schaumburg this November at 1022 N. Meacham Road. Its previously announced downtown Chicago location, at 24 E. Jackson Blvd., is slated for a December opening.

We've long been fans of the Chipotle offshoot, which currently operates 11 locations in Washington and Los Angeles. Much of the menu was developed by Nate Appleman, the James Beard Award-winning chef who made his name at A16 in San Francisco before getting poached by the Chipotle team to create recipes for ShopHouse.

Chicagoans got a preview of the chain in 2012, when it popped up at Chipotle's Cultivate Festival in Lincoln Park. The pork and chicken meatball rice bowls were fantastic, and green papaya som tam salads were more complex and satisfying than a fast food chain had business to serve.
