BRIEF: Sheriff's deputies hurt in Malibu crash released from hospital

May 25--Two Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies who were involved in a traffic accident Sunday night have been released from the hospital, authorities said Monday.

The deputies were driving along Kanan Dume Road near Latigo Canyon Road around 6:35 p.m. when their patrol car struck a guardrail and flipped over, sheriff's officials said.

The two deputies -- a man and a woman -- were airlifted to UCLA Medical Center and were later released with no major injuries, sheriff's officials said.

The deputies were responding to reports of a violent, mentally ill man who was throwing rocks at vehicles near Trancas Canyon Road and Pacific Coast Highway, about 10 miles from the scene of the accident, sheriff's officials said.

The man was taken into custody by other deputies.

Sheriff's investigators along with a team from the California Highway Patrol are investigating the cause of the accident.
