BRIEF: Sheriff asks for help to ID armed robbery suspect

Dec. 17--The Cook County Sheriff's office is asking for the public's help identifying a man who robbed a Palatine-area gas station and may be responsible for other robberies in the northwest suburbs.

About 2 a.m. Monday, sheriff's police were called to an armed robbery at a gas station on the 1400 block of North Quentin Road in unincorporated Cook County near Palatine. The robber, who was dressed in a red jacket and red cap, walked up to the counter, pulled out a gun and demanded cash, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

The clerk handed over the money, and the robber took menthol cigarettes before leaving, the release said.

The robber is described as a black man with a medium build. He is about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall. Beside the red jacket and cap, he was wearing a gray scarf, gloves and dark pants, said the release.

Police believe the same man was involved in an attempted robbery that happened earlier Monday morning at a gas station in Schaumburg. He may also be involved in other robberies in Park Ridge and Prospect Heights.

Anyone with information about the man should call the sheriff's police at 708-865-4896.
