May 21--H. John Gilbertson Jr., a Shedd Aquarium board member since 2000 and retired managing director of Goldman, Sachs Co., is the new chairman of the aquarium's board of trustees after a vote Thursday, the institution announced.
The role of Gilbertson, 58, is especially significant because the aquarium is looking for a new president and CEO to replace Ted Beattie, who'll retire late next year after more than 20 years. Gilbertson succeeds the Chicago lawyer Tyrone Fahner, board chair since 2012."
"I'm honored to support and help lead an organization that is not only a leader in developing the next generation of stewards for our planet, but also one that makes an important contribution to the history and cultural experience of Chicago," Gilbertson said in a statement.
Born in Evanston and educated at Harvard and Dartmouth, he lives in Lake Forest with his wife Kathryn and their four children.
