BRIEF: Shapiro will stage new Tracy Letts play

April 20--Soon-to-be Steppenwolf artistic director Anna D. Shapiro will direct Tracy Letts' new play "Mary Page Marlowe," the theater announced on Monday.

It was widely assumed Shapiro would helm this production (March 31-May 29) as she and Letts have collaborated on three of his past works -- "The Three Sisters," "The Man From Nebraska" and "August: Osage County" -- at Steppenwolf where they are both ensemble members. It will feature a 17-person cast.

Meanwhile, outgoing artistic director Martha Lavey will appear, alongside Alana Arenas, Tom Irwin and Mariann Mayberry in Bruce Norris' play, "Domesticated" (Dec. 3-Feb. 7), which will be directed by the playwright.

Frank Galati's new adaptation of John Steinbeck's sprawling Biblical allegory, "East of Eden" (Sept. 17-Nov. 15), will feature Kate Arrington, Tim Hopper, Francis Guinan, Alan Wilder, Casey Thomas Brown, Aaron Himelstein, Elizabeth Laidlaw, Stephen Park, Brittany Uomoleale and Dan Waller. Terry Kinney will direct the production.

And Tim Hopper and James Vincent Meredith will star in Stephen Adly Guirgis' "Between Riverside and Crazy" (June 23-Aug. 21, 2016), which was awarded the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for drama today. Yasen Peyankov will direct.
