BRIEF: Several injured in Lake Shore Drive crash involving off-duty CTA bus

Jan. 02--Multiple vehicles were involved in a traffic crash on Lake Shore Drive late Friday that sent several people to hospitals, authorities said.

About 11:30 p.m., a Hyundai Sonata driving south near 32nd Street hit an out-of-service CTA bus on the shoulder, said Chicago Police Department spokeswoman Officer Janel Sedevic.

The Hyundai lost control and began to swerve, which caused three other vehicles on the road to swerve and lose control. One of those vehicles flipped over and landed on its side, police said.

According to Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez, seven people were taken to local hospitals. A person whose age and gender were not available was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital; a 24-year-old woman was taken to the same hospital in fair-to-serious condition; and a 16-year-old boy was taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in fair-to-serious condition. Four other people were taken to Mercy in good-to-fair condition, Hernandez said.
