BRIEF: Seth Meyers to give Northwestern commencement address

Feb. 23--"Late Night" host Seth Meyers is slated to give the Northwestern University commencement address in June and receive an honorary degree from his alma mater, the university announced Tuesday.

Meyers, who graduated from Northwestern in 1996, is one of five people who will be recognized with an honorary degree at the commencement ceremony 9:30 a.m. June 17.

Meyers, 42, trained at the iO Theater and went on to join "Saturday Night Live" in 2001 and become host of "Late Night with Seth Meyers" in 2014. He served as grand marshal for Northwestern's Homecoming parade in 2011.

The university is also slated to give honorary degrees to Robert Alter, a University of California at Berkeley professor of biblical studies; Richard Lifton, a Yale School of Medicine professor who studies gene mutations; Sara S. McLanahan, a Princeton University professor who focuses on fragile families and child well-being; and Ruth J. Simmons, a former president of Brown University.
