Dec. 15--Services have been announced for Chicago firefighter Daniel Capuano, who died after plunging down an elevator shaft while battling a warehouse fire on the Far South Side.
Visitation for Capuano, 42, is scheduled for 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at St. Rita High School Chapel, 7720 S. Western Ave., according to the Chicago Fire Department.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, also at the high school chapel. He will be buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 W. 111th St. in Alsip.
Capuano, a 15-year veteran of the Fire Department, died Monday after falling down an elevator shaft as he searched for people and the source of a blaze in a vacant warehouse at 9213 S. Baltimore Ave.
Capuano was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead less than two hours later.
An autopsy Tuesday determined Capuano died of multiple blunt force injuries from a fall from height, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. His death was ruled an accident.
He is survived by his wife, Julie, and three children, Amanda, 16, Andrew, 13, and Nick 12.
