BRIEF: Sequel to 'My Best Friend's Wedding' heading to TV

Oct. 15--A sequel to the 1997 movie "My Best Friend's Wedding," which was set and filmed in Chicago, is heading to TV, the Hollywood Reporter reported Wednesday.

The series, which is being developed by ABC, will pick up with Julianne Potter (played by Julia Roberts in the film) navigating life in New York City with best friend George (played by Rupert Everett in the movie). In the film, Potter travels to Chicago to stop the wedding of her longtime friend Michael O'Neal (Dermot Mulroney) to Kimmy Wallace (Cameron Diaz).

The Drake Hotel, U.S. Cellular Field (then Comiskey Park) and the Cuneo Mansion and Gardens in Vernon Hills were backdrops for the movie. Chicago chef Charlie Trotter, who died in November 2013, made a cameo in the film.

Ron Bass ("Waiting to Exhale") and Jessica Amento will write the screenplay. Amento confirmed the Hollywood Reporter report on Twitter saying, "Thrilled to share what I've been working on. Pinch me moment!"
