Feb. 02--Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman needs Tommy John surgery on his left elbow, Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll announced Monday through the team's Twitter feed.
Sherman tore his ulnar collateral ligament on a fluke play with teammate Kam Chancellor during the NFC championship game against the Green Bay Packers on Jan. 18. He didn't miss any practice time leading up to the Super Bowl and played through the pain during the big game.
Carroll expects Sherman to be ready to play by the time next season rolls around, according to the Seattle Times. The same goes for two other injured members of Seattle's famed "Legion of Boom" defensive secondary.
Chancellor injured his knee during practice leading up to the Super Bowl and could end up requiring surgery. Earl Thomas, who dislocated his shoulder during the NFC championship game but played in the Super Bowl, will get a second opinion before deciding on whether to undergo surgery.
Carroll also said that cornerback Jeremy Lane suffered a "significant" broken arm on the same play in which he intercepted a pass by New England quarterback Tom Brady. Lane is expected to require surgery as well.
