Feb. 17--A panel discussion hosted by Derrick Sanders with special guests will follow this weekend's screening of the documentary "My America Too (Taking Theater to the Streets)," presented by the League of Chicago Theatres and the Gene Siskel Film Center.
Sanders, the founding artistic director of Congo Square Theatre, will be joined by Baltimore Center Stage's artistic director Kwame Kwei-Armah and Chicago Dramatists resident playwright Lydia R. Diamond. Diamond's play "Smart People" recently opened off-Broadway at Second Stage Theatre.
"My America Too," the result of a commission from the Center Stage Theatre, is a collection of short films documenting guerrilla-style plays from writers Lydia R. Diamond, Kwame Kwei-Armah, Larissa FastHorse, Neil LaBute, Kenneth Lin, Elyzabeth Gregory Wilder and Hana Sharif. The plays were inspired by recent events in cities including Baltimore and Ferguson.
The screening will be held this Saturday at noon at the Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N. State St. Tickets are available at siskelfilmcenter.org.
