May 23--A Schaumburg woman has been sentenced to prison for supplying the drugs that led to her friend's overdose death in 2014, Kane County prosecutors said Monday.
In a negotiated plea, Katharyn M. Stanish, 24, of the 1400 block of Tonset Lane, agreed to plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to five years in prison.
According to prosecutors, Stanish gave heroin and cocaine to Bradley Schiller, 23, of Bartlett, on Dec. 10, 2014. Schiller had attended a job fair that day at a hotel near the 2700 block of Foxfield Road in St. Charles, authorities said. Stanish, who was a friend of Schiller's, had rented a room at the hotel where she and Schiller ingested drugs that Stanish had purchased.
She told authorities she passed out, and when she awoke about an hour later, she found Schiller unconscious on the floor. Stanish called a friend and then 911, and Schiller was taken to a hospital, but died four days later of an overdose, prosecutors said.
Stanish, who had been free on bond, is eligible for day-for-day credit, so she could be paroled in about 30 months. The plea hearing in front of Judge John Barsanti was conducted Friday.
