BRIEF: Santa robs San Francisco bank, putting the 'con' in SantaCon

Dec. 16--At least one Santa Claus in San Francisco is not carrying a sack full of toys.

Police say a bank robber took advantage of Saturday's annual pub crawl, famously known as SantaCon, when hundreds of holiday revelers don their best St. Nick wear and roam the city streets.

As festivities were underway and Santas flocked to downtown San Francisco, the robber in Claus costume entered a bank about 1 p.m. in the 400 block of Sutter Street and passed the teller a note.

The robber said he had a handgun, said police Sgt. Monica MacDonald although no weapon was seen.

After the teller handed him a bag full of cash, the robber fled into a sea of Santas.

"Any other day, Santa would have stood out," she said, "but that day Santa was everywhere."

Making things tougher, police are working with a very limited description. This particular Santa , she said, was 40 to 50 years old and about 6 feet tall.

It is unclear if they will find the Santa thief, but police are looking.
