BRIEF: Santa Ana police investigating death at Fourth of July block party

July 05--Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 55-year-old man who may have died from injuries suffered during a fight at a Fourth of July block party in Orange County.

Officers responded to the scene in the 2500 block of North Linwood Avenue in Santa Ana about 9:40 p.m. after receiving a report of a fight, according to a statement from the Santa Ana Police Department. There they found paramedics performing CPR on a man who was "unresponsive in the street."

The man was transported to Western Medical Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His identity has not been released.

Police said it was unknown whether the man was hurt during the fight, or if he had died of a preexisting condition.

The Orange County coroner's office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Santa Ana homicide detectives at (714) 245-8390, or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
