Nov. 29--Two officers were hurt and several businesses were vandalized during demonstrators Friday night in San Francisco to protest the grand jury decision on the Ferguson, Mo., police killing of an unarmed black man.
Several arrests were made, and officials on Saturday were tallying the damage.
The protesters tried to disrupt the annual Union Square tree-lighting ceremony at the height of one of the busiest shopping days of the year, but were turned back by San Francisco police, Sgt. Monica Macdonald said.
She added that the holiday tradition went off without a hitch.
The march continued into the Mission District, where there were scattered reports of broken windows and bottles and rocks thrown at officers, Macdonald said.
KGO-TV reported one officer was cut in the face from glass and a second was hit in the chest with a brick.
Macdonald said other San Francisco protests since since the Missouri grand jury's announcement Monday have been peaceful.
The grand jury declined to indict Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson for the killing of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown, sparking protests and sporadic violence across the country.
