BRIEF: San Diego woman arrested on suspicion of trying to kill police officer

April 27--A 31-year-old San Diego woman was arrested Sunday afternoon on suspicion of trying to kill a police officer who was attempting to arrest her.

The officer had responded to a complaint that the woman, who was believed to be drunk, was yelling at customers of a car wash along El Cajon Boulevard in the Normal Heights neighborhood. The officer went to arrest her on suspicion of being drunk in public, police said.

The woman, identified as Chelsea Saunders, "refused to be handcuffed and during the struggle grabbed for the officer's handgun," said San Diego Police Department Lt. Mike Hastings.

The gun went off, hitting the officer's pant leg, Hastings said. No one was injured.

Saunders was arrested and charged with the attempted murder of a police officer.
