BRIEF: Safety Donte Vaughn picks Notre Dame football

Oct. 12--Donte Vaughn celebrated his 18th birthday Monday by pledging to play football for Notre Dame.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound four-star cornerback from Memphis (Tenn.) Whitehaven is the Irish's 16th commitment from the Class of 2016.

Vaughn tweeted the commitment Monday morning and thanked his friends and family.

"It's been a journey so far but still have a long way to go," Vaughn tweeted. "Today, 10/12/15 I'm verbally committing to the University of Notre Dame."

Vaughn chose the Irish over offers from Auburn, Cincinnati, LSU, Miami, Missouri, Ole Miss and Tennessee, Texas A among others.

Vaughn visited South Bend twice during the summer and again for the season-opener against Texas.
