BRIEF: Russian to sub for Muti at CSO

Feb. 05--Russian conductor Gennady Rozhdestvensky has agreed to extend his residency with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra by an extra week to take over the first series of subscription concerts music director Riccardo Muti was to have led as part of his now-abandoned winter residency. Muti withdrew following recent surgery for a minor hip accident in Europe.

Rozhdestvensky, who's currently in town to lead this weekend's CSO concerts at Symphony Center, now also will direct the concerts of Feb. 11, 12, 13 and 16. The program of Ligeti, Mozart, Part and Tchaikovsky will remain unchanged. CSO principal clarinet Stephen Williamson will be the soloist.

No replacement has yet been announced for the subscription concerts Muti was to have conducted Feb. 18-20.
