BRIEF: Run to Shake Shack, get a free milkshake. Then go running again.

Dec. 31--For those of us not willing to give up indulgent foods in the name of a New Year's resolution to get fit, Shake Shack is offering a compromise.

The New York-based burger chain has brought its running club, Shack Track and Field, to Chicago, where the reward for your workout is a discounted burger or a free milkshake or beer. The run is between 3 and 5 miles, from a partnering running store to a Shake Shack location.

In Chicago, the upscale burger chain partnered with two stores: the Universal Sole Running Store in Lakeview and Live Grit in the West Loop. The runs end at Shake Shack's location at 2 S. Michigan Ave.

The running stores offer free transportation of athletes' belongings to Shake Shack.

The runs started in December and take place on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The runs are free and open to runners of all speeds. Shake Shack spokeswoman Laura Enoch said all runs have a pacer to ensure everyone finishes.

In case you're wondering, a Shake Shack milkshake has up to 870 calories. So you might have to go running again.
