BRIEF: Robbery victim shot during struggle with gun: police

Sept. 27--A 22-year-old man is accused of shooting a man he was trying to rob earlier this month in the Marquette Park neighborhood, according to police.

Nemroy Murray Jr., 22, of the 2500 block of West 91st Street, was charged with aggravated battery and attempted armed robbery, police said.

Court records show Murray appeared before a judge Friday, where bail was set at $350,000. Murray remains in custody at the Cook County Jail and is slated to appear in court again on Sept. 30, according to records.

Murray was identified as the man who shot a 34 year old man during the commission of a robbery on Sept. 7 at about 2:40 p.m. in the 2500 block of West 71st Street on the Southwest Side, police said.

According to police, Murray approached the victim as he was seated in his vehicle and demanded his property. The victim struggled with Murray for the gun and as a result he was shot in the chest, police said.

The 34-year-old man drove himself drove himself to Holy Cross Hospital and was then transferred to Christ Hospital with a graze wound to the chest, according to police.
