BRIEF: Road rage incident leads to Mercedes passenger's death, police say

May 09--A passenger in a Mercedes Benz was killed in Beverly Hills on Friday night when the driver crashed while fleeing the scene of a minor accident, authorities said.

After being involved in a minor collision with a taxi at Pico Boulevard and Swall Drive, the white four-door Mercedes sped away, a witness told investigators.

When the Mercedes reached Olympic Boulevard at about 11:58 p.m., it struck an Audi SUV, several trees and a concrete wall, the Beverly Hills Police Department said in a news release. Investigators believe that the female passenger who was killed was not wearing a seat belt.

Police called the Mercedes' run-in with the taxi a road rage incident.

No one in the Audi was injured. The Mercedes driver and two other passengers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Investigators believe drugs or alcohol may have been involved.

None of the occupants of the cars were identified. Sgt. Giovanni Trejo said investigators were still working on the case, and he did not know whether anyone has been arrested.
