Nov. 14--Work on the Chicago Riverwalk will force the closure of the LaSalle Street Bridge from Friday night through late Tuesday, according to city officials.
The Chicago Department of Transportation is drilling two 8-foot diameter caissons to a depth of about 65 feet below the bottom of the Chicago River as supports for a walkway under the bridge, according to a release from the department.
Detours of both regular traffic and CTA buses will be in effect through Tuesday night, according to the city:
"Northbound vehicles will be detoured to eastbound Wacker Drive, to northbound Dearborn, to westbound Grand and then back to northbound LaSalle. Southbound traffic will be detoured to eastbound Illinois Street, to southbound Clark Street, to westbound Wacker Drive and back to southbound LaSalle Street," according to the release.
"Southbound #156 buses will operate via Kinzie to Clark to Wacker before resuming their regular route. Northbound #156 buses will operate via Wacker to Dearborn to Kinzie before resuming their regular route."
The work is part of the third phase of the Chicago Riverwalk project, which the city expects to finish next year.
