Jan. 11--"Mad Max: Fury Road" star Riley Keough plays a Chicago law student who is paid to have sex without emotional attachment in the new Starz network series "The Girlfriend Experience."
The 13-episode series, which premieres 7 p.m. April 10, is inspired by the 2009 Steven Soderbergh film of the same name. The half-hour series briefly filmed in Chicago in June.
Keough, 26, plays Christine Reade, a second-year student at the fictional Chicago-Burnham Law School and a new intern at the fake firm of Kirkland and Allen. A classmate introduces Reade to a world of high-end call girls who provide a "girlfriend experience" by having sex without ties.
"What this show portrays is a woman who likes sex without guilt and without shame," co-director Lodge Kerrigan said Friday at a Television Critics Association event, according to media accounts.
Sasha Grey ("The Scribbler") played the lead role in the Soderbergh film, which was set in New York City.
Starz's "The Girlfriend Experience" is expected to screen later this month at the Sundance Film Festival.
