Oct. 28--Rick Santelli, the Chicago-based editor for CNBC, paid $730,000 for a five-bedroom, 5,502-square-foot Prairie-style house in west suburban Wayne.
Santelli, 59, gained fame in 2009 from the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange when he criticized a government program to bail out homeowners and floated the idea of a "Chicago Tea Party," which some have credited with starting the tea party movement.
Built in 1991, the two-story house Santelli bought sits on 3 acres and has 4 1/2 baths, an attached four-car heated garage and a full finished walkout basement with a bedroom, a bar and a billiards room. Outdoor features include a five-car heated detached garage and a pond.
Santelli declined to comment about the purchase.
Ronald Tossey of RE/MAX Great American North represented Santelli in the purchase.
