BRIEF: Richard Panik oversleeps, misses Blackhawks morning practice

Jan. 21--Winger Richard Panik had gotten off to a good start with the Blackhawks, since coming over from the Maple Leafs in a trade on Jan. 3.

Panik had scored two goals in his last two games. But Panik likely burned some of that good will on Thursday when he overslept for the Hawks' morning practice at 11:30 a.m. local time. He will not play Thursday as a result, coach Joel Quenneville said.

Quenneville did not seem pleased when discussing Panik's tardiness.

"It's too fresh right now to really assess it," Quenneville said.

Panik arrived late and skated individually while the other Hawks were coming off the ice. With Panik out, Quenneville said the Hawks will dress seven defensemen against the Lightning.

Ryan Garbutt was traded this morning to the Ducks for Jiri Sekac, who likely won't arrive in time to play, Quenneville said. Brandon Mashinter will draw into the lineup.
