BRIEF: Reward up to $35,000 in fatal shooting of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee

Nov. 05--Rewards being offered in the shooting death of a 9-year-old boy on the South Side now total $35,000, according to organizers.

"We are getting a lot of people coming and sharing information," said the Rev. Michael Pfleger, pastor of St. Sabina Catholic Church who is coordinating the rewards. "I'm confident that we're going to get the person."

Tyshawn Lee was gunned down in an alley in the 8000 block of South Damen Avenue in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood Monday afternoon, just doors from his home.

Police said he had been shot several times and may have been targeted because of his father's involvement in recent gang-related killings. A person of interest was questioned late Wednesday and released. No one else is in custody.

Pfleger gave the following breakdown of the rewards offered so far:

--$5,000 from St. Sabina.

--$10,000 from two anonymous donors.

--$1,000 from community activist Andrew Holmes.

--$3,000 from the Beverly Area Planning Association.

--$1,000 from St. Columbanus.

--$15,000 from Cook County Commissioner Sean Morrison, who runs a security company.
