BRIEF: Report: White Sox sign Melky Cabrera

Dec. 14--The White Sox signed free-agent outfielder Melky Cabrera to a three-year contract "in the $45 million range," WSCR-AM 670 reported late Saturday. The deal was pending a physical, the report said.

Center fielder Adam Eaton sent a message to Cabrera via Twitter after the report surfaced: "The Melk Man!!! Welcome fella!!" he wrote. Cabrera, 30, retweeted the post.

Cabrera, a switch-hitting outfielder, hit .301 with a .351 on-base percentage, 16 home runs and 73 RBIs for the Blue Jays last season. He has played for five teams over 10 seasons with a .286 average.

In 2012, he was suspended for 50 games for testing positive for testosterone while with the Giants.
