July 17--Veteran reliever Rafael Soriano could join the Chicago Cubs by next week.
Soriano, 35, was promoted Thursday to Triple-A Iowa after not allowing an earned run in five appearances with Double-A Tennessee.
Shortly after signing a minor league contract with the Cubs on June 9, manager Joe Maddon estimated Soriano would need about eight appearances before joining the Cubs.
Soriano saved 45 games for Maddon with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2010 and has 207 saves over a 13-year career.
