BRIEF: Record heat hit California, but showers possible Tuesday

June 09--After several cool weeks, summer seemed to spring on California on Monday.

Several communities reported record temperatures for the day, including Long Beach (88) and Burbank (102). It was even hotter in the Central Valley. Sacramento hit 105, Modesto and Red Bluff hit 106 and Redding hit 107, according to the National Weather Service.

For all the heat, a chance of showers is in the forecast for Tuesday, with a slight possibility of a thunderstorm. The L.A. Basin will have temperatures ranging from the 70s on the coast to the 80s inland. The valleys will hit the 90s.

Temperatures will be slightly cooler through the rest of the week.
