May 27--Though the names might not be as familiar as Davids Blaine or Copperfield, two of the magic community's best practitioners are coming to Chicago for rare appearances.
John Carney and Paul Vigil will be performing at Magic Chicago in separate shows Saturday and June 3 at Lakeview's Stage 773.
To describe their styles of magic might be too esoteric for the lay public. I will say this: If you're into classic sleight-of-hand magic with coins and playing cards, a more formal show that brings to mind a middle-20th century parlor act, John Carney is your guy. Carney is regarded as one of the most technically dexterous conjurors in magic, as evidenced by this appearance on David Letterman. Carney performs Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Paul Vigil, who just completed a residency at The Mirage hotel in Las Vegas, presents a more intellectually confounding style of magic -- one involving elements of theatrical mind-reading, close-up magic and audience interaction.
Tickets for both shows are available at magicchicagoshow.com.
