BRIEF: Rahm Emanuel backs Tom Thibodeau, bites tongue on firing

May 28--Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Thursday threw his support behind just-fired Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau, saying the team was fortunate to have him.

Emanuel declined to give his opinion of the team's decision to cut Thibodeau loose but made it clear he holds the coach in high regard.

"There's a lot I'd like to unburden myself on, but I'll say this: I've been in regular conversation over the past weeks with Coach T, and I think he's a great coach," said Emanuel, who has spoken in the past about his appreciation for Thibodeau's work ethic and attention to detail.

Emanuel was out to talk about graffiti removal, and when he was asked whether he had any message on the firing for Bulls vice president of basketball operations John Paxson or general manager Gar Forman, he instead walked toward the crew using a graffiti blaster to take spray paint off a nearby wall.

"I have a lot to say, but you know what? I have a blaster I'd like to use right now," he said.
