Quick sellout for 'Portlandia' star Carrie Brownstein at MCA

Aug. 25--Tickets to see "Portlandia" star Carrie Brownstein read from her new memoir at the Museum of Contemporary Art in October sold out in nine minutes Tuesday morning, a museum spokeswoman said.

"Nine minutes is our record for selling anything out," museum spokeswoman Karla Loring said. The theater seats 300 people, Loring said.

Some Twitter users complained they had trouble logging on to the site to purchase tickets, which went on sale at 10 a.m. A museum representative tweeted that the response was "completely overwhelming."

Brownstein will talk about life as a singer-guitarist in the indie rock band Sleater-Kinney and read from "Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl" from 6-7:30 p.m., on Oct. 30. Pitchfork Senior Editor Jessica Hopper is also leading the discussion at the museum, at 220 E. Chicago Ave.

The presentation is part of "In Sight Out," a collaboration between the museum and Pitchfork that explores perspectives on music, art and culture. Each ticketholder will receive a copy of Brownstein's memoir.

Loring said it's not possible to add a second Brownstein talk to meet demand but fans who didn't get tickets can come to the museum an hour before the discussion to get on the waitlist. Pitchfork will release a podcast of the talk and reading a week after the event, Loring said.
