BRIEF: Queen Elizabeth buys Chicago condo fit for a ... Canadian consul.

Sept. 16--Was it the name that clinched the deal?

Queen Elizabeth II has bought a $1.57 million condominium in Chicago in a building that has a name befitting the British monarchy: The Buckingham.

The 2,600-square-foot three-bedroom, three-bath residence was sold in late August by a trust of Patricia Mikes to Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada (Elizabeth II is the constitutional queen of Canada).

The residence will be used by the Canadian consul general in Chicago, according to real estate agent Steve Acoba of Keller Williams. The consul general in Chicago is Roy Norton, but Acoba declined to confirm that he would be using the residence.

The 26th-floor unit, which has a separate laundry room and an upgraded kitchen, is in the 44-story Buckingham at 360 E. Randolph St.

The sale was first reported by Crain's Chicago Business.
