BRIEF: Puppy found abandoned inside pillowcase sealed with duct tape

April 26--Woodstock police are trying to determine who sealed a weeks-old puppy inside a pillowcase with duct tape and abandoned it near a busy road.

Authorities said the dog, believed to be a boxer or mixed breed about 4-6 weeks old, was abandoned along U.S. Highway 14. Police said the dog was found Wednesday along the shoulder of the road by a motorcyclist on his way to work.

The man noticed something moving inside the pillowcase and turned his motorcycle around to see what it was, Woodstock police Detective Sgt. Jeffrey Parsons said. The man ripped open the duct-tape seal and found the puppy.

Parsons said the motorcyclist took the dog to work with him and then contacted a Gilberts-based animal rescue, Hoof, Woof and Meow, which took the dog in and notified police.

The motorcyclist was not identified.

The dog is said to be doing well at Hoof, Woof and Meow, and the rescue is taking applications for the dog's adoption. For information, call 847-836-7387.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Woodstock police at 815-338-2131 or 815-338-6120.
