BRIEF: Prosecutors: Man arrested twice within hours for stealing booze

May 18--A 53-year-old Near West Side man was arrested over the weekend after prosecutors said he stole five bottles of Champagne and candy from a Jewel-Osco a few hours after he was arrested in a similar theft from a different store.

Sedrick Waller, of the 2300 block of West Monroe Street, was first arrested early Saturday after stealing alcohol from a store and was released by police on his own recognizance, prosecutors said Sunday in Cook County bond court.

But later that day, Waller walked into a South Loop Jewel-Osco in the 1200 block of South Wabash Avenue, according to court records, where he placed about $219 worth of Moet bubbly and a Snickers bar into a bag and was stopped by security after he exited the store.

Waller is charged with felony retail theft and violating bail bond charges, according to records.

Judge Adam Bourgeois set Waller's bail at $250,000 in that alleged second Saturday theft.

Court records show Waller has a multitude of retail theft convictions dating to at least 1995.
