BRIEF: Preview: Wisconsin at Illinois

Oct. 23--TV/radio: 2:30 p.m. Saturday; BTN, WSCR-AM 670.

Line: Wisconsin by 6.

Records: Wisconsin 5-2, 2-1 Big Ten; Illinois 4-2, 1-1.

Last meeting: Wisconsin won 38-28 on Oct. 11, 2014, in Madison, Wis.

On the offensive: Illinois will be facing a Badgers defense that ranks third nationally by allowing 10.9 points per game. Since giving up 35 to Alabama in the opener, Wisconsin has allowed only 6.8 points per game.

Getting defensive: The Illini will see a Badgers team that is much more prone to pass than in seasons past. They're averaging 35 pass attempts per game, the highest in 20 years. Joel Stave has thrown for more than 300 yards in the last two games.

The number: 9. Wins for the Badgers in the teams' last 10 meetings.

The talk: Illinois could make this a memorable homecoming with a victory.

Shannon Ryan's pick: The Illini offense is short-handed because of injuries. The Badgers defense is stout. Wisconsin 21, Illinois 17.
