BRIEF: Preview: Northwestern at Duke

Line: Duke by 31/2.

Records: Northwestern 2-0; Duke 2-0.

Last meeting: Northwestern won 24-20 on Sept. 6, 2008, in Durham, N.C.

On the offensive: Northwestern rushed for 344 yards Saturday in a 41-0 victory over Eastern Illinois. The Wildcats are 22-for-39 (56.4 percent) on third down, which leads the Big Ten.

Getting defensive: Matthew Harris had two interceptions, including a pick-six, against EIU. NU has limited opponents to 3-for-26 on third down, ranking third in the nation. The Wildcats are one of four teams that have not allowed a TD.

The number: 18. NU wins in September, against only two losses, since the start of 2010.

The talk: Duke and Northwestern are peer academic institutions with relative success in football. The schools are 8-8 in the all-time series, which began in 1985.

Fred Mitchell's pick: Northwestern has won six of the last seven games against Duke. This one won't be easy. Northwestern 24, Duke 23.
