Bristolians have taken to social media to discuss a brief and bizarre power outage this evening.

It has been reported that the brief power cut was experienced as far as South Wales.

Western Power said in twitter: "There has been a large dip seen on the network in #southWales and some of the #SouthWest.

"Engineers are aware of this and are investigating the cause. Our apologies for the inconvenience. David."

Many Bristolians took to social media to write about what happened.

Tricount Drawcalla said: "Just had like a 2 second powercut, anyone else in BS3/Bristol?"

To which some replied it also happened in BS5 and BS4, and as far as North Somerset too.

Another social media user said: "Yeah fam; fridge nearly exploded from it i swear it was like a surge from the grid lol..."

And another one said: "Yup - indoor powers on but outside street lights are all off."

Bristol Post reporter Tristan Cork tweeted: "Lights went off for a second, WiFi tripped out, all the street lights went off for ages and ALL the burglar alarms in the street went off.

"Looks like this was right across Bristol and beyond. Weird."

Another social media user wrote: "As regular as clockwork in south Bristol & still off now. Doorbell has stopped working too."

While another said: "Ayyyy I’m in Clifton, thought this had happened. Saw the lights trip but thought it was just due to shit student housing electrics."

A spokesman for Western Power told WalesOnline: "There was an issue with the National Grid and they are investigating. It has affected homes across South Wales and the South West.

"This fault has created a dip which is when there is a fault on the line or substation and all the volts have collapsed which can be caused by a fault or explosion."
