Feb. 06--Rescue crews are searching the waters off the coast between San Pedro and L.A. Harbor on Friday evening after a midair collision between two small planes, authorities said.
The aircraft collided about 3:30 p.m., U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Andrea Anderson said. Witnesses reported seeing at least one plane crash in the waters off San Pedro about that time, Los Angeles County fire officials said.
A search involving the Coast Guard, Long Beach and Los Angeles firefighters and Los Angeles County lifeguards is underway. Local TV news outlets broadcast footage showing debris scattered across the ocean and divers in the water.
No survivors have been found, and the number of passengers on board the planes was not immediately available, Anderson said.
