BRIEF: Possible Ebola patient arrives in Atlanta for tests

Dec. 04--A U.S. healthcare worker who may have been exposed to Ebola while in West Africa has arrived at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta for testing and observation.

The patient, who was not identified, was admitted Thursday to the hospital's serious communicable disease unit to undergo testing, hospital officials said. They did not say which West African country the healthcare worker was in at the time he or she was possibly exposed to the virus.

The hospital this year has treated four patients who have tested positive for Ebola.

Ten people have been treated for the deadly virus in the United States this year, and two have died. About 1,400 people in 44 states who have returned from affected African countries in the last 21 days are being actively monitored for the virus.

Earlier this week, a Boston patient who was being monitored for Ebola-like symptoms was found not to be suffering from the virus, but had instead contracted malaria.
