Nov. 28--A recent string of robberies in the city's Austin neightborhood has prompted a warning from police to businesses on the West Side.
Since last week, three convenience stores in Austin have been robbed by two men who enter the stores, display a handgun and demand cash from the register, according to a police statement.
The men also rob store clerks of their wallets or personal cash, police said. The robbers have been described as wearing black hats or black ski masks and, in one case, drove off in a small black vehicle, police said.
The first robbery happened about 8:20 p.m. Nov. 20 in the 600 block of North Cicero Avenue. The second robbery happened about 7:10 p.m. Nov. 26 in the 4900 block of West Ferdinand Street, and the third happened the same day about 8:20 p.m. in the 5400 block of West Chicago Avenue, according to police.
