BRIEF: Police warn of University Village robberies

Jan. 20--Police are warning University Village neighborhood residents of recent robberies on the Near West Side.

One occurred about 9:15 a.m. Jan. 16 in the 1500 block of South Blue Island Avenue. The second happened 15 minutes later in the 1100 block of West Polk Street.

Both robbers were described by police as black men between 18 and 20 years old. One was 5-feet-9-inches to 5-feet-11-inches tall and weighing between 165 and 175 pounds, and the other was 5-feet-6-inches to 5-feet-8-inches tall weighing between 160 and 180 pounds. The first wore a black ski mask and black hoodie, according to police, while the second wore a blue hooded sweater.

In both incidents, the two attackers approached victims, displayed a handgun and demanded property.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact detectives at (312) 747-8382.
