BRIEF: Police warn of robberies on Lake Street leg of Green Line

March 23--Chicago police are warning Green Line riders of two robberies on the Lake Street line in recent weeks.

In both incidents, two robbers approached commuters on CTA "L" trains and demanded their jackets and cell phones, according to an alert issued Tuesday afternoon by Area North detectives.

The robberies happened in the 4700 block of West Lake Street about 3:53 p.m. on March 10 and in the 4000 block of West Lake about 7:30 p.m. on March 4. Police released surveillance photographs of one the robbers from March 10.

The robbers were described as two black men, one between 20 and 29 years old, standing 5-foot-11 to 6-foot-2, weighing about 170 pounds and with dreadlocks; the other 19 to 20 years old, standing about 5-foot-8 and weighing about 160 pounds, with red dreadlocks.

The surveillance photos showed one of the men wearing what appeared to be a leather jacket, camouflage pants, red shoes with gold buckles, a gold cross, a black baseball cap and hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses, with what may have been an earring in his left earlobe. The man may have been wearing a backpack.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 312-744-8263.
